Prideland’s Fire Department

Chapter 1
A Chance Meeting

The rain was falling in sheets on the city. Blinding flashes of lightning split the pre-dawn sky causing deafening claps of thunder. Alone under an awning a solitary lion stood looking at his reflection in the windows of a main street store front.

Pausing to think while he adjusted his tie and checked the placement of his nametag and badge he asked himself silently, “Am I ready for this, the fire department historically has been such a macho organization? What if they find out that I am not like them?” While lost in his thoughts he failed to notice the approach of a tall wolf approached without him noticing.

The wolf taps the lion on the shoulder and asks, “are you Jae, the new medic on the squad?”

The lion jumps knocking his nametag from his shirt and stammers “yyyeess, Jae Talsmith “ as he bends to pick up his nametag.

The wolf smiles showing gleaming white canines saying “Great, I am Captain Johanson. Welcome to the team. Shall we go in and meat the crew?”

Jae pauses running his claws through his black mane saying “I suppose so.”

The Captain stops and looks to Jae and says “I probably shouldn’t say anything, but” Captain Johanson pauses a moment rubbing his jaw. “Your partner on the squad is different” another longer pause “It caused some problems with his last partner so I think you should know, before we go inside.”

Jae looks to the captain and asks quizzically, “What should I know?”

The Captain looks a little nervous as he says “Your partner Mike, He likes other guys”

Nodding a little Jae asks “By liking other guys, you mean he is gay?”

Looking slightly worried the Captain quickly adds, “Don’t get me wrong, Mike is a great guy and a top notch medic. He never comes on to the guys at the station, he just seems to be the one the guys play practical jokes on and is the butt of some jokes. The guys at the station like him and the jokes are only in good fun.

Jae shakes his head and says, “sounds like it could be rough.”

Johanson nods and says “I guess that is why his former partner left, he couldn’t take the razzing from the guys.”

Jae nods causing rain water to shake from his mane and replies “I see, I don’t think I will have a problem”, then thinks to himself at least I won’t be the only gay guy at the station.

Clapping Jae on the shoulder the Captain says “Great, let’s get in there and eat some breakfast before those animals eat all the food!”

Introductions

Megaplex 2009 Con Report

Well this is my second con down... and hopefully many more to come.

Myself and Kerne arrived in Orlando a little after midnight friday morning and checked into our hotel (Motel 6, about 1-2 blocks from the con hotel by driving, but only a couple hundred feet walking). We got to our room and unloaded our 2 huskies into the room and set up their pens for the stay. I then went over to check the layout for the con hotel and met some fus on the pool deck and had some conversation (sorry guys I am blanking on the names but thanks for the welcome).

After going back to the hotel and getting ready for bed one of the dogs decided to get sick all over one of the beds, there goes another 1/2 hour of sleep. After cleaning the bed and pulling off the sheets and sorting out everything finally got to bed.

Actual con - Day 1

After breakfast went to check in to the con,

Registration - Big kudos to Yappy and the con staff check-in actually started right on time. I have heard horror stories about delays at other cons. Was able to meet up with a Mach, havent seen him since I left Orlando in 1999
Opening Ceremonies- Good job on the opening ceremonies, Thanks Santa Paws for the Dare Lion, I carried him all con
Badges 101 - Thanks to the host, and with some help, I created my first ever con badge :) (Scan to be posted later). We could have used more tables in the room as it was a hands on pannel and not a presentation.
Basic Fursuit Construction - Wild, you did a great job!!!!. You have helped me over come some of my road blocks and I intend to get my first head done as soon as I have a refference Sheet
Fursuit Games - Santa Fox, I had a blast!!!!!!!
Uncle Kage's Story Hour- My parrents arrived and we had dinner just before this event, They came in to check in but registration had closed, Thank You security for allowing them in and to register the next day. Uncle Kage, I know I told you at con, but my parrents really enjoyed your presentation, especially my dad, he was nearly ROFL on a couple of your points. The one that got him the most was when you were talking about dressing up as a grumpy old person.
Dance- Herbie - GREAT COSTUME and AWESOME entrance!!!!!!!

Day 2-

Fursuit Parade - Arrived at the con just in time for line up. The route was a good one... Thank goodness no-one fell in the pool :)
Fursuit Photo - Great job getting things organized quickly, made it easyer on me since I have a hard time breathing in my head.
JD's Birthday Celebration- Nice touch, pehaps the con should ask birthdays and call out anyone who has a birthday :)
Fursuit Performing - Tilt, thanks for the tips. I cannot remember who your co-host was but his point of watching cartoons to learn moves was a good one. I am actually modifying that a bit and watching other suiters to see how to be a little more animated in costume.
CARE Presentation - The animals were very nice. I really liked the Florida Panther, But I may be a little biased.
Charity Auction - Kage, you are very entertaining even when selling stuff, I got outbid on everything but it was fun.
Matthew Ebel Concert- I missed your concert at FWA, I am glad I made this one.
JR's Comedy Standup - You are a funny man, I hope you make it big.
RHPS - No RHPS virgin here, you can't get me. One word for the show, arrousing

Day 3-

Advanced Tips and Tricks - This presentation could have used a overhead presenter or projector setup (Note for con staff). Thank you to the presenters, they provided a fount of information that I intend to implement as I proceed in to learning how to draw.
Advanced Fursuit Construction - Again wild, Thank you for the tips.
Paw Pet Show- Always fun, and my parrents had a big laugh.
Furry Variety Show - I am sad this got canceled. But the opening of that time slot allowed me to go with my parrents,and other family to Pirates Dinner Adventure
WTF Theater - How did you know I liked Who's Line is it Anyway. I liked to died laughing!!!!!! It was so funny.
Dead Dog Dance-Thanks for the last Horrah and final appearance of the current rendition of Kovu DaLion. By next con I hope to have a new suit.

After attending the dead dog till about midnight Me and Kerne went back to the hotel and packed up to leave. We loaded up the dogs and got on the road about 12:30 makeing it back to Tallahassee about 5 am

Notes to con staff -

The water provided by the hotel had a very sulphurish flavor, I am not sure if anyone else noticed, Same at the hotel we were staying at, it may just be that water system.

More tables availible in the pannels room

Put the pannels away from areas with loud music (Main salon, game room) makes it hard to hear the presenter

Some kind of overhead presentation system for the presenters in the pannels room.

Larger Dealers Den if possible, I am sure you will fill it up :), Perhaps using the sawgrass conference room for the den, and put the pannels in the existing dealers den.

Fursuiters individual sports games too, and/or a fursuit playground that is always open. You had all the nice toys and such for the games those could be in the playground and have a few events scheduled there
